Next steps to support #BaltimoreUprising

As you probably heard, all of the officers involved with the murder of Freddie Gray were indicted today. This would not have happened without the powerful youth-led actions in Baltimore and across the country.

Last night, over 500 people joined a call to hear first-hand reports from people in Baltimore and discuss taking action for racial justice at this crucial moment. Click here for detailed notes from last night's call. We are working on getting a recording of the call to post on our website.

SURJ (and friends) has compiled actions for parents and families to engage their kids in racial justice and the movement for Black Lives. Download a PDF version of the Mother's Day action toolkit.

Here are the best ways to take action right now:

1-Join SURJ. We have groups all across the country and we want to connect you to them. And we want to work with existing groups that want to collaborate.

2-Get in the streets! Saturday is a national day of action. Find or post an action in your town.

3-Donate to the Legal/Bail Support fund for Baltimore. These funds are crucial in this time of uprising.

4-Take a selfie image or video in support of Baltimore and post it to social media. Click here to download a sign that you can print to show your support for the #BaltimoreUprising protesters. Or make a video beginning with the sentence:

"I support the Baltimore Uprising because..."

5-Neighborhood Outreach.  Go door to door in your community with Black Lives Matter Yard signs. Order your signs here and email us at to talk through a plan to get them out.

6- Read and forward our Mother's Day Action Kit to five friends.

SURJ is a national network of groups and individuals organizing white people for racial justice. We are working to connect people across the country while supporting and collaborating with local and national racial justice organizing efforts. Connect with a local SURJ local affiliate groups and contacts here.

We look forward to continuing to build a powerful multi-racial movement for justice with you.

In solidarity,

Dara, Sam, Carla, Meta, Sean and the whole SURJ team
