National Day Of Action: Show Up Against Police Violence

*This is a Peaceful Demonstration*

The Movement for Black Lives has designated Thursday, July 21st as a National Day of Action. Please join us in front of the downtown police department from 5:15 - 6:45. This is not an anti-police rally, but a Show Up against police brutality and harassment. We want to make visible and undeniable the fact that white folks across the country refuse to be complicit in the assault on Black lives. This is a peaceful demonstration to show solidarity with communities of color. Our current policing policies aren't working for citizens of color and, given the recent violence against police officers, it isn't working for police either. We want ALL the violence to end and this will require systemic change, change that can't happen without our white voices. Be visible. Speak up.

These times were chosen in order to reach more neighbors, and to be visible to the cars coming off the ferries that arrive at 5:20 and 6:35.

Come early enough to find parking in the area. BPD says they have a large employee lot, and we can use it.

Bring signs and banners expressing support. The general message is Solidarity with the Movement for Black Lives, Demilitarize police, and Re-allocate funding for excessive policing and send it into neighborhoods. This is an opportunity to learn more about how our own police department is responding to the nationwide concerns.

News flash: The 12' x 15' Elephant in the Room will make an appearance.

Think creatively. Bring love.

Please invite friends and share widely.

"The first task of whites in these struggles is to be vocal and visible." -Anne Braden
